The Business and Economic Research Center (BERC) at Middle Tennessee State University conducted its annual 40-county wage and benefit survey in Middle Tennessee between February 1 and March 24, 2024. This comprehensive survey primarily focused on manufacturing and distribution companies in the region.

The 2023 Middle TN Wage & Benefit Survey was sponsored by USDA Rural Development, Middle Tennessee Industrial Development Association (MTIDA), and Tennessee Valley Authority Economic Development. Additional support came from regional partners including Middle Tennessee Workforce Boards, Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce, Greater Nashville Regional Council, South Central Tennessee Development District, Upper Cumberland Development District, Tennessee Central Economic Authority, The Highlands Economic Partnership, and Tennessee Chamber of Commerce & Industry.

The primary objective of this survey remains to provide local human resource managers and economic development officials with clear insights into the compensation structure of key occupations in the region. This valuable data helps businesses and organizations make informed decisions about workforce development and competitive compensation packages.

In recognition of its excellence, BERC’s 2023 Wage and Benefit Survey received the Community, Economic, and Workforce Research Award at the annual Council for Community and Economic Research (C2ER) Conference in June 2024. This award highlights the project’s response to demonstrated needs, its quality, and its collaborative approach.

For those interested in accessing the survey results, BERC has made regional infographics with survey findings available on their website. Participants in the survey receive full reports, which can be obtained by contacting BERC directly at berc@mtsu.edu.
