Northeast Transportation Corridors (NETcorridors)

The NETcorridors are critical state thoroughfares that facilitate the efficient movement of goods and materials in and out of Sumner County. These projects, outlined in the Tennessee Department of Transportation’s 10-Year Plan, include key infrastructure upgrades within Sumner County to support growth and connectivity.

Interstate 65 (I-65) Projects – 4 Sections

Section 4: I-65 Widening from SR 25 to SR 109 – Completed

This completed project involved widening I-65 from SR 25 to SR 109, enhancing connectivity from White House to Portland at the state line.

Section 1: I-65 Widening from Rivergate Parkway near Blue Star Road (Goodlettsville area)

Scheduled to start in early 2025, this project aims to widen I-65 to improve traffic flow in the Goodlettsville area.

This section focuses on widening I-65 between SR 41 and Bethel Road to alleviate congestion and enhance safety.

State Route 109 (SR 109) Projects – Portland Bypass

Section 1: Northern Segment – From SR 109 to SR 52

Part of the TDOT 10-Year Plan, this project will construct the northern segment of the Portland Bypass to improve freight movement.

State Route 386 (SR 386) – Vietnam Veterans Boulevard

Phase 1: Exit 8, Saundersville Road at SR 386, CSX Underpass

This project involves constructing a CSX underpass at Exit 8 to improve traffic flow and safety. Recently added to the plan.

Included in the TDOT 10-Year Plan and the Statewide Partnership Program, this project aims to widen SR 386 to SR 109.

This data is derived from connected vehicle and location-based services (LBS) data, calibrated with annual average daily traffic (AADT) values from the Highway Performance Monitoring System (HPMS). Understanding these traffic patterns aids in infrastructure planning and highlights areas requiring transportation improvements.

Collaborative Efforts

Forward Sumner plays a pivotal role in coordinating the NETcorridor initiative through strategic partnerships and unified advocacy. Working closely with local governments, the Greater Nashville Regional Council (GNRC), Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), and the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT), Forward Sumner brings a cohesive voice to regional transportation planning. This collaborative approach has positioned Sumner County's projects, including the NETcorridor, as high-priority initiatives within the 2045 Regional Transportation Plan (RTP). The organization's involvement extends to serving on TDOT's contractor scoping team, a first for a TDOT project, ensuring local interests are represented throughout the planning and implementation processes. This unified strategy has been instrumental in securing funding and advancing critical infrastructure projects, demonstrating the power of public-private partnerships in driving regional transportation improvements.
